HARRISBURG – The PA House and Senate Education Committees held a public hearing Wednesday on safely reopening K-12 schools in the Commonwealth. State Education Secretary Pedro Rivera and Health Secretary Dr. Rachel Levine fielded questions from panel members over a variety of issues facing school districts this fall. Senate Education Committee Chairman, Cambria County Sen. Wayne Langerholc raised concerns over a number of Gov. Tom Wolf’s guidelines and recommendations and urged the Wolf Administration to allow for local control of school districts. One panel member testified that some school superintendents fear reopening due to the threat of COVID-19 lawsuits.
