HARRISBURG – Telemarketing would be impacted under legislation that is before state senators in Harrisburg. Senate Bill 764 would prohibit a telemarketer from spoofing phone numbers so that the call appears to originate from the same local area code as the recipient. Bill sponsor, Mercer County Sen. Michele Brooks says the spoofing provides a hardship for those who have difficulty getting to their phone, but see a local phone number and feel the need to pick it up. The measure would also prohibit telemarketers from making robocalls after 8 p.m. in the call recipient’s time zone. Senate Bill 764 could receive a Senate floor vote as early as next month.
