LANCASTER – In 1962, President John F. Kennedy proclaimed May 15 as National Peace Officers Memorial Day and the calendar week in which May 15 falls, as National Police Week. This year, National Police week is being recognized from May 11th through May 17th. This week serves as a poignant tribute, allowing law enforcement professionals, families of fallen officers, and community members to come together and pay respects to those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. This solemn occasion features the National Peace Officers Memorial Service, accompanied by various events that honor the memories of those who have given their lives in service. We are committed to recognizing the bravery and selflessness of law enforcement officers, while providing support to their loved ones and colleagues. In 1994, Bill Clinton made an amendment that directed the United States flag to be flown at half-staff on May 15th in honor of those Peace Officers that made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.
