MANHEIM TOWNSHIP – The Lancaster County District Attorney’s Office released more information regarding a Tuesday night police standoff. Manheim Township Police responded to a domestic disturbance inside a home on Knollwood Drive in the Sunnybrook Apartment Complex. Officers heard a female screaming from inside that she needed help. Seconds later, a shot was fired from a window. No one was struck from the shot. Officers established a perimeter, evacuated nearby apartments, and requested assistance from the Lancaster County Special Emergency Response Team. Numerous attempts were made to contact the occupants. After about 5.5 hours, the decision was made to enter the home and rescue the woman. During entry, two shots were fired, including one by a police officer. The circumstances of those shots are being investigated by State Police. Officers located a man inside, dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. The woman was rescued and was not hurt. The identities of the man and woman have not been released.
