HARRISBURG – Legislation that would preserve historic barns in the Keystone State is being introduced by Luzerne County Sen. Lisa Baker. Historic barns symbolize the heart of the family farm. Her proposal will offer an incentive for preserving historic barns in an effort to reduce landscape decay while enhancing community enjoyment and ensuring these important structures remain viable for agricultural use and tourism purposes. Tax credits will be issued for preservation of barns 50 or more years old. There will be a 10-year sunset provision on the tax credit that will give time for education and promotion without committing the Commonwealth to a permanent program.
