HARRISBURG – The PA Senate approved legislation giving individuals an option to help in the fight against breast cancer. Senate Bill 445 will mirror similar processes set in statute which allow persons renewing vehicle registrations or a driver’s license to include an optional $5 donation to the PA Breast Cancer Coalition. Bill sponsor, Sen. Bob Mensch of Berks, Bucks, & Montgomery Counties shared statistics that one in eight women in the United States will develop breast cancer in her lifetime. Almost 50,000 cases are expected in PA. The Coalition has contributed over $4.5 million to breast cancer researchers in Pennsylvania and have pushed for legislative solutions for expanding insurance coverage for early detection of breast cancer in women. The bill goes to the state House.
