HARRISBURG – Senate Bill 244, known as the Protecting the Rights of Concealed Carry Permit Holders Traveling Across State Lines Act, has been introduced by Pennsylvania Republican Senator Doug Mastriano. As the name implies, the bill aims to help protect the constitutional rights of law-abiding Pennsylvanian gun owners when traveling across state lines into states that do not honor Pennsylvania’s reciprocity agreements. Mastriano noted that law-abiding Pennsylvanian gun owners have been harassed and wrongfully detained by out-of-state authorities in some cases for simply having a concealed carry permit. The legislation would seek to prevent such scenarios by amending Title 18 of PA law in order to prohibit the sharing of Firearms License Validation System data with states that do not honor Pennsylvania’s reciprocity agreements. The bill is now before the Senate Judiciary Committee for consideration.
