HARRISBURG – Health insurers would be required to cover treatment for Lyme Disease or related tick-borne illnesses as prescribed by a patient’s health care practitioner under a bill approved in the PA House. House Bill 1033 would provide insurance coverage for available and emerging diagnostics and treatment options, regardless if the treatment plan includes short-term or long-term antibiotic treatment. PA has ranked highest in the country in the number of confirmed cases of Lyme Disease with more than 10,000 cases per year. The bill now goes to the state Senate for consideration.
