LANCASTER COUNTY – Lancaster County’s Hempfield Water Authority has issued a drinking water warning to its customers as high nitrate levels of 10.8 were found in water samples received on April 30th. The maximum is 10.0. Nitrate in drinking water is a serious health concern for infants less than six months old. The Authority says customers should only use bottled water when feeding infants. Boiling, freezing, filtering, or letting water stand does not reduce the nitrate level. Adults and children older than six months can drink the water, as they are better able to process nitrates. Those who are pregnant or have specific health concerns should consult your doctor. You can read the drinking water warning by clicking on the banner below.
