LANCASTER – A judge has denied Jere Bagenstose’s motion to reduce a state prison sentence imposed last month for killing his then-wife Maryann in 1984. Attorneys for Bagenstose had filed a motion to reduce his sentence, arguing that the four to 10 years of incarceration imposed was “manifestly excessive.” The judge ruled that Bagenstose had avoided consequences of his action for four decades. A jury convicted him following a two-week trial in March and April. Maryann disappeared from the couple’s Pequea Township home in the 100 block of West Willow Road on June 5, 1984. Her body has never been found.
