LANCASTER COUNTY – The Internal Revenue Service notified some Lancaster County municipalities that their Revenue Officers will be conducting in-person visits in the area during the weeks of August 10th and August 17th. Most visits are scheduled in advance and taxpayers typically receive a letter from the IRS before an appointment. However, in some cases, Revenue Officers may make unannounced visits to taxpayers or third parties as part of their duties. IRS Revenue Officers will identify themselves and present their official IRS credential. They also carry additional government-issued ID if requested. Officers assigned may from other states and will be driving out-of-state vehicles. If someone claiming to be from the IRS visits your home or business and you are not sure of their identity, do not hesitate to call your local police in verifying the person’s credentials before sharing any information.
