LANCASTER – While completing annual voter maintenance procedures, the Lancaster County Board of Elections office was notified by the PA Department of State that they identified a voter, registered through the PennDOT’s Motor Voter Program, who was apparently a non-citizen and should not have been able to register. Following the initial notification, the County received information on several other voters that may have been improperly registered. The County has been made aware of five improperly registered voters. Immediately following the notification of each improperly registered voter, the Board of Elections Office canceled the voter’s registration and provided them with a letter notifying them of this change. Further, each voter’s record was examined and instances where improperly registered voters attempted to cast a ballot were referred to the District Attorney’s Office for further investigation and, if appropriate, prosecution. Given questions around these registrations through the State’s Motor Voter Program, the Elections Office is currently reviewing all available voter registration records. The Elections Office will take appropriate action with any registration requiring added scrutiny, including canceling or putting on hold registrations until documentation is provided. The Elections Office will continue to work with the Lancaster County District Attorney’s Office as they review each voter file.
