HARRISBURG – With the risks related to human trafficking on the rise, Erie County Rep. Bob Merski introduced a bill that would mandate that the National Human Trafficking Hotline number be posted in public restrooms. Under House Bill 644, the Hotline number would be posted in stalls, on mirrors, and by all hand dryers and paper towel dispensers. Other states that have mandated similar posting of hotline information are seeing much greater call volumes. Merski added that records from hotline calls are also helpful in investigating and prosecuting trafficking crimes and in getting services to survivors. The bill is before the PA House Labor and Industry Committee for consideration.
