HARRISBURG – State senators approved a bill that protects the future finances of agricultural fairs impacted by COVID-19. Senate Bill 1182 creates an emergency grant program that will award fairs the same amount of funding from the PA Fair Fund that they received last year if their event was canceled due to the pandemic. Mercer County Sen. Michele Brooks sponsored the legislation. She said our local fairs reach far beyond the fairgrounds by touching our fire and police departments, churches, booster clubs, Little League baseball, and so many other non-profits. Brooks added that lawmakers must do their part to ensure that the fairs return next year. The bill now goes to the state House for consideration.
