LANCASTER COUNTY – A Danville man pleaded guilty to a DUI crash along an East Hempfield Township highway that left one woman dead. 38-year-old Apar Patel pleaded guilty before a judge to charges of homicide by vehicle while DUI, homicide by vehicle, driving under the influence, and four summary traffic offenses. Patel will be sentenced later after the conclusion of a pre-sentence investigation. Patel crashed into a stopped tractor-trailer on the shoulder of Route 283 while driving nearly 80 mph, killing his 33-year-old passenger, Karra Clevenger, in September 2024. Patel had been drinking with Clevenger in Lancaster and told investigators had no memory of the events after he started driving. Though Patel initially told police Clevenger was the driver, he later admitted that he was the one behind the wheel upon learning that she had died.
