HARRISBURG – Governor Josh Shapiro announced in a press release last night $2.1 billion in federal funds owed to Pennsylvania agencies had been successfully unfrozen. Shapiro called the Trump administration’s freezing of federal funds an illegal act, which prompted Shapiro to file a lawsuit against the administration less than two weeks ago. Shapiro credited that lawsuit and a meeting with the Trump administration on Friday as having been critical factors to allowing these federal funds to freely flow into Pennsylvania once again. Shapiro says the money will now continue to fund infrastructure work and support crucial programs that aim to provide Pennsylvanians employment opportunities and that make Pennsylvania safer – all efforts that had been jeopardized by the freeze.
