HARRISBURG – The Shapiro Administration is appealing the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s termination of the Local Food Purchasing Assistance Program, which provides funds to PA farmers who supply local food banks with fresh produce. Gov. Shapiro directed PA Agriculture Secretary Russell Redding to immediately challenge USDA’s decision to cancel PA’s $13 million contract for the program which supports 189 PA farms and 14 food banks across the state. Shapiro said his administration is taking the action after hosting a roundtable discussion with local leaders and farmers from Adams, Cumberland, and Schuylkill Counties at the Central PA Food Bank.
