HARRISBURG – Rep. Sue Helm of Dauphin & Lebanon Counties is touting her measure that would provide more substantial relief for renters and mortgage owners hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic. She urged her fellow legislators to act quickly on House Bill 2868 while at the same time, Gov. Tom Wolf re-opened the COVID Relief-Mortgage and Rental Assistance Grant Program to accept applications until Wednesday, Nov. 4. Helm said simply extending the deadline does not fix the problems with the program, rather her bill will ensure that more homeowners, landlords, and tenants who lost income due to COVID-19 restrictions will receive the help they need to stay in their homes. The bill, which awaits final passage by the state House before moving to the Senate, would amend legislation enacted earlier this year to reduce barriers to participation in the grant program and allow more effective use of CARES Act funding. The bill has received bipartisan support.
