SCRANTON –Former PA First Lady Ellen Casey has died at the age of 91. Her son, PA U.S. Sen. Bob Casey tweeted a statement from the Casey family that she died last Friday morning at Regional Hospital in Scranton after a brief illness. She served as PA’s First Lady from 1987 to 1995 while her husband, Robert Casey was governor. He passed away in 2000. PA First Lady Lori Shapiro issued a statement saying, “Like Governor Casey, she made family, health, and children part of her life’s work. Her work to raise awareness around breast cancer, literacy, and so much more made the lives of countless Pennsylvanians better. We are grateful to Ellen for her dedication to the people of PA. May her memory be a blessing for her family and all of us who benefited from her service.” Gov. Shapiro ordered U.S. and Commonwealth flags on all Commonwealth facilities, public buildings, and grounds across the state to fly at half-staff in honor of Ellen Casey.
