LANCASTER – Former Lancaster City Republican Mayor Charlie Smithgall has passed away. Smithgall was a pharmacist and businessman, who would go on to serve as mayor of the Red Rose City for two terms from 1998 to 2006. The operator of Smithgall’s Pharmacy was well known for his many cannons which were used during the Independence Day Celebration at Lancaster’s Long’s Park. Smithgall leaves behind his wife and daughter. He was 77.
