HARRISBURG – Five women members of the of PA House are planning to introduce “The Fairness in Women’s Sports Act” in response to the Biden Administration’s nationwide executive order requiring that biological males be permitted to compete on women’s school sports teams. Cumberland County Rep. Barb Gleim, one of the bill’s sponsors, said Title 9 was designed to create equal athletic opportunities for women. Allowing biological males to compete in women’s sports destroys fair competition and women’s athletic opportunities. Another sponsor of House Bill 972, Rep. Stephanie Borowicz of Clinton & Centre Counties, said we are living in crazy times that we would even need legislation like this, but here we are in 2021. York County Rep. Dawn Keefer, Philadelphia County Rep. Martina White, and Allegheny County Rep. Valerie Gaydos are also prime sponsors. Enacting House Bill 972 protects Title IX and will promote gender equality by giving biological females a fair playing field when competing, thereby granting better access to scholarship opportunities and future success in life.
