HARRISBURG – With a new school year beginning in PA, students will now be required to complete a financial literacy course. Under legislation from Sen. Chris Gebhard of Berks, Lancaster, and Lebanon Counties, students will need to complete a half-credit personal finance course as a high school graduation requirement. Young people are making major financial decisions earlier than ever from taking out student loans to using credit cards and financing their first vehicle. Giving students a stronger understanding of personal finance can help them avoid costly mistakes and help them make informed decisions throughout their lives. Students will gain the understanding they need about topics like credit and credit scores; savings and investments; college, home, and auto loans; and planning for postsecondary education and retirement.
