WASHINGTON, DC (AP) – An area attorney is facing federal charges that he threatened to kill Democrats in the U.S. Senate and was on his way to Washington, D.C., with firearms and a “large amount of ammunition” when he was stopped by State Police. 71-year-old Kenelm Shirk III of Lebanon County is charged with threatening to murder a U.S. official. He has pleaded not guilty. His lawyer said Shirk had no intent to kill anyone. He says the incident began as a domestic dispute. Shirk is behind bars pending trial. Shirk was the former solicitor of Akron Borough in Lancaster County and has a law firm in Ephrata.
