YORK COUNTY – York County authorities are investigating a fatal swimming accident. Yesterday at 5:43 p.m., police and other emergency responders were called to the area of Hershey Road in Jackson Township. An initial investigation found that two boys – one 11 and the other 12-years-old – had gone to the area of a low head dam in order to swim in the Codorus Creek. The 11-year-old, identified as Payton Gonzales of Spring Grove, began struggling in the current of the dam and submerged. The 12-year-old ran for help. Rescuers located Gonzales near the south bank of the creek. They pulled him onto the creek bank and began life saving efforts. He was transported to York Hospital, but later pronounced dead by the York County Coroner. Anyone with information is asked to contact Northern York County Regional Police at 717-467-8355.
