Promise Players present their Summer Musical Comedy, “Smoke on the Mountain”

July 8 @ 7:30 pm - July 17 @ 9:00 pm

We’re back!  After a two year wait due to COVID-19 precautions, we are pleased to be able to offer this long-anticipated show!

It is June 1983 in North Carolina. The singing Sanders family, who, after a five year hiatus, is set to perform their traditional and bluegrass gospel songs at a Saturday Night Gospel Sing at the local Baptist church… but they are running late.  Pastor Oglethorpe stalls the best he can.  Finally, the family enters with gusto.  They break into their first number and patriarch Burl introduces the rest of the family.  There is Vera, the family matriarch, Dennis and Denise are fraternal twins, daughter June who does interpretive signing, Brother Stanley who has spent some time in prison and cousins too numerous to mention.  Each of the family shares an individual story about their beliefs which leads to some funny stories.  It’s a good old-fashioned, foot-stompin’, music lovin’ time- praising the Lord!

“Smoke on the Mountain” is a musical comedy based on the book by Connie Ray and conceived by Alan Bailey with musical arrangements by Mike Craver and Mark Hardwick.  This musical will be performed by the Promis Players on July 8-10 and 14-17.  Performance times are 7:30 pm for Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights and at 2:30 PM for the Sunday matinees.  We will have a change of venue for this return show.  Performances will be held at Rawlinsville Camp Meeting at 475 Clearfield Rd., Holtwood, Pa.  There will be golf carts available to shuttle those with mobility issues from the parking area to the pavilion.
