HARRISBURG – The provision of an estate tax exemption for military members in PA has been unanimously passed by the state House Finance Committee. House Bill 1342 would provide an exemption from the Inheritance Tax for property that is transferred from the estate of a military member who has died as a result of an injury or illness suffered while serving on active duty. Bill sponsor, Monroe County Rep. Jack Rader says his legislation would help during a difficult time by alleviating an unnecessary financial burden and allow the family to mourn rather than worry about a tax liability. The bill now goes for consideration to the full House.
