UNDATED – Today is the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday. It became a federal holiday in 1983 when President Ronald Reagan signed legislation into law calling for the holiday. Many will focus on service to their fellow man today. Federal, state, and local government offices will be closed today. Most schools are off, banks are also closed, and there will be no home mail delivery today. The City of Lancaster says there will be no street cleaning today. Street sweeping, residential permit, and metered parking will not be enforced today. Trash & recycling collection will operate on schedule today and for the remainder of the week.
