HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania Department of Health today confirmed as of 12:00 a.m., April 23, that there are 1,369 additional positive cases of COVID-19, bringing the statewide total to 37,053. Sec. Of Health, Dr. Rachel Levine clarified this number in the afternoon press briefing. There are 36,665 confirmed positive cases leaving 388 that are probable. Today, the state is reporting 1,421 confirmed deaths in Pennsylvania down from 1,622 reported yesterday. The number of deaths confirmed by a positive virus test actually rose overnight by 69. But Levine says hundreds of probable deaths were removed from the official toll after further investigation. A probable death is one in which a coroner lists COVID-19 as the cause or contributing cause, but the deceased was not tested for the virus.
