HARRISBURG – Legislation has been sign into law by the governor which authorizes the construction of the Gold Star Families Memorial Monument on the PA State Capitol Complex. The monument will honor and recognize the sacrifice of the fallen and remember the families they leave behind. The monument itself will be sponsored by the Woody Williams Foundation, which was established to honor and support Gold Star Families. It will be built to reflect five main philosophical pillars of the foundation: homeland, family, patriot, sacrifice, and legacy. The goal of erecting the monument will be to establish a permanent place for Gold Star Families to gather, remember and honor their fallen loved one, and to assist in educating the public on the ultimate sacrifice the bravest patriots made for them and their country. The monument is proposed to be constructed east of the Irvis Office Building and North of Walnut Street.
