HARRISBURG – PA is a step closer to creating a commission that would help open new avenues of opportunity in the agricultural industry for the benefit of under-served communities..The state House Agricultural and Rural Affairs Committee approved House Bill 767 which would establish a PA Socially Diverse Farmers Commission to improve agricultural opportunities for minorities and people of color across the Commonwealth. Bill sponsor, Philadelphia County Rep. Danilo Burgos says he’s proposing a commission that would be tasked with reviewing current policies and issuing a report with recommendations to promote and implement a farm-related diversity, equity, and inclusion plan to include farmers of color. The bill now goes to the full state House.
