HARRISBURG – House Bill 185 received state House approval. The measure would provide that a person is guilty of aggravated assault, a second-degree felony, if they attempt to cause or intentionally cause bodily injury to a person with a physical disability, intellectual disability or autism spectrum disorder. The bill is known as Cody’s Law, named after Cody Overdorff, who has William’s Syndrome, and was assaulted by four individuals in August 2019 on the Hoodlebug Trail in Homer City, Indiana County. Current law only allows for misdemeanor charges to be levied against those who caused him injury. The bill now goes to the state Senate.
