LANCASTER COUNTY – A Lancaster County woman was sentenced to four to eight years in state prison in connection with beating a 9-year-old girl and trying to conceal her injuries. 36-year-old Esmeralda Lugo of Manor Township pleaded guilty to charges of aggravated assault and strangulation. Lugo hit the child multiple times in the face at her residence on the evening of Jan. 24, 2024. The assault caused a noticeable injury to the victim’s eye, which Lugo attempted to conceal. Speaking to police, the victim said her injuries were so painful that she was unable to sleep on the bruised side of her face. Lugo also punched the victim and placed her hands around their neck. A school counselor reported the assault to police after the victim reported it to a staff member. Manor Township Police and Lancaster County Children & Youth removed the victim and an infant sibling from Lugo’s home.
