LANCASTER – The Lancaster County District Attorney’s Office filed two charges of aggravated assault against a Reading man involved in an incident in East Earl Township on February 1. U.S. Marshals were executing an arrest warrant for 38-year-old Zachary Gilbaugh on numerous offenses around 6 a.m, in the 1400 block of Union Grove Road. Gilbaugh failed to comply with verbal commands from the officers and threatened them with a blowtorch, saw blade, and cinder blocks. He eventually got into a minivan and accelerated forward while two officers were in front of the vehicle, nearly striking both. Officers fired multiple shots at Gilbaugh. The vehicle crashed into a guardrail and came to a stop across the street. Officers rendered aid to Gilbaugh until he was rushed by ambulance to an area hospital, where he’s in ICU under guard. The actions of Gilbaugh were caught on video by a nearby surveillance system and reviewed by Lancaster County Detectives.
