CHESTER COUNTY – Chester County authorities made an arrest in the murder of a man after an attempted carjacking. 33-year-old Javier Rivera of Kennett Square is charged with first degree murder and related charges. On August 10, Rivera attempted to steal a BMW from a driveway in Kennett Township. The victim, a 69-year-old resident of the home and owner of the car, began to argue with Rivera and chased him up the driveway. At some point, he was stabbed by Rivera, killing him. The victim’s identity has not been released. After the stabbing, Rivera fled on foot and stole a series of cars to evade capture. At one point, he crashed into a gray Honda Accord and then, when the drivers got out to exchange information, Rivera stole the Accord. Later, Rivera drove a stolen car to West Chester and was confronted by two residents after he broke into a home on New Street. In the end, Rivera returned to his Kennett Square home in a stolen Honda CRV. He was found there by police. Rivera is being held without bail at Chester County Prison.
