HARRISBURG – Now is a great time to get your flu vaccine. This year, both the flu shot and nasal spray are available and recommended for everyone 6 months of age and older to protect against the flu. Dr. Cindy Whitener, Interim Chief of Infectious Diseases at Penn State Hershey Medical Center, says symptoms of the flu and COVID-19 may be similar. Testing may be needed to determine if you have COVID-19 or the flu. If you feel extremely ill, you should see a medical professional immediately. It takes about two weeks for the antibodies from the vaccine to develop protection from the flu. In addition to getting vaccinated, you should continue to practice healthy habits like covering your mouth and nose, frequently wash your hands, disinfect commonly touched items, and maintain social distancing.
