MIDDLETOWN – The PA Turnpike is ready to support millions of drivers who will travel the roadway for the Labor Day holiday weekend. The PA Turnpike projects 2.9 million customers will use the toll road between now through Monday, Sept. 7, a 1.2% increase compared to 2025 volumes. The PA Turnpike’s GEICO Safety Patrol teams will be throughout the system to help travelers get to their destinations safely. All roadway construction and maintenance projects will be suspended until Monday, Sept. 7 at 11 p.m. to ensure as many travel lanes are open as possible. PA State Police will have extra patrols during the holiday period to ensure drivers are following the posted speed limits, allowing proper distance between other vehicles, and maintaining respect for other motorists and driving conditions. Drivers are reminded that Paul Miller’s Law went into effect earlier this year, prohibiting the use of hand-held devices while driving, even while stopped temporarily due to traffic, a red light, or other momentary delay. Drivers convicted of using a hand-held device while driving will pay a $50 fine, plus court costs, and other fees. Drivers can still use their phones to alert authorities of an emergency and use hands-free technology to make phone calls, use a GPS, and listen to music.
