HARRISBURG – Rep. Scott Barger of Blair & Huntingdon Counties has introduced legislation that seeks to confirm state grant recipients are following federal employment guidelines with their workers. House Bill 1781 would require that any entity receiving a grant from the state use the federal E-Verify system to ensure new hires are lawfully authorized to work in the United States. Barger said, “Commonwealth grants should be designated for responsible employers with a lawful workforce, not entities whose laborers work in the shadows. This bill would give taxpayers additional peace of mind when it comes to knowing who is on job sites across our state.” Barger anticipates the measure will be referred to the PA House Labor and Industry Committee.
