HARRISBURG – With bipartisan support, the PA House Aging and Older Adult Services Committee advanced legislation requiring the Department of Aging to list any local Area Agency on Aging that is not compliant with regulations and corresponding corrective action plans on its website. Countless older Pennsylvanians rely on the agencies for services, such as meals and social activities. The agencies also investigate allegations of elder abuse. However, since 2017, as many as one-third of the 52 agencies have been out of compliance with state regulations. For years, the Department of Aging had kept non-compliant agencies from public view, releasing information once a year in a report that is rarely seen by the public. House Bill 372 would require the department to display a non-compliant agency list and corrective action plans on its website. The bill is now before the full PA House.
