HARRISBURG – Legislation which refines an existing law that allows the compensation of student athletes for the use of their name, image or likeness was sent to the Gov, Wolf’s desk. House Bill 2633 includes a provision that removes language prohibiting schools from arranging deals for their student athletes and requiring students to share the contract with the school at least seven days prior to the execution of the contract. Last year, a U.S. Supreme Court decision paved the way for student athletes to be compensated for the use of their name, image or likeness, but no national standard was ever set for how to do so equally and appropriately. As such, the states were left to enact their own rules, of which PA did with the authoring of Act 26 of 2021.
