HARRISBURG – Continuing efforts to ensure residents have access to quality health care, the state House Professional Licensure Committee approved amended legislation to improve PA’s Professional Nursing Law. The amendment to House Bill 100 creates a six-year pilot program to allow certified registered nurse practitioners to practice without a collaborative agreement in areas of the state that are experiencing a critical shortage of primary care. Participants must meet several criteria. There is a current need for affordable health care in rural areas of the Commonwealth that are underserved. The bill also calls for a study into the program, which would be delivered to the General Assembly, to guide further legislative efforts. House Bill 100 is now before the full House for consideration.
