HERSHEY – PennDOT, PA State Police, and Penn State Health are urging Pennsylvanians to celebrate responsibly during the upcoming Labor Day holiday. Dr. Chadd Nesbit, Division Chief of Penn State Health’s Life Lion Emergency Services urges motorists not to become statistics. PennDOT Secretary Mike Carroll says if your plans include alcohol, make a plan to get home safely. PSP and municipal police agencies will conduct impaired driving enforcement details as part of a nationwide enforcement and education campaign which runs now through Sept. 7. Law enforcement also works to identify drivers impaired by illegal drugs and prescription medication or some combination of substances that impact a driver’s ability to safely operate a vehicle. PA has about 250 Drug Recognition Experts, who are specially trained officers who look for impaired drivers and assist in DUI investigations when drug-impaired driving is suspected.
