FRANKLIN COUNTY – Firefighters battled flames for over three hours after blaze erupted at a chicken barn in Franklin County early Thursday morning. Fire crews responded to a report of smoke at 3:57am Thursday, and then quickly began receiving multiple calls regarding a large barn fire from drivers passing the barn on Route I-81. The barn, which was 600 feet long and 40 feet wide, was well-involved when crews arrived, and extinguishing the blaze required a host of assisting fire companies. Fortunately, no people or animals were hurt in the fire, as the former owner of the barn told reporters that the chickens had been moved out of the barn only a day prior. The barn was completely destroyed by the flames, and the cause of the fire is still unclear.
