HARRISBURG – The PA Department of Agriculture reports that it is seeing a resurgence of avian influenza in commercial flocks nationwide and urges the institution of enhanced biosecurity measures on all PA farms. Avian influenza has been detected again in our region. USDA confirmed September 29 that a backyard producer in Lancaster County and a commercial turkey producer in York County were infected. Over 25,000 birds were affected. The PA Department of Agriculture is recommending that bird owners lock down their flocks as much as possible as it’s clear that avian influenza is everywhere in the current environment and wild birds are of particular concern.
