HARRISBURG – As questions mount over the Wolf Administration’s rules for managing COVID-19 at long-term care facilities, Huntingdon County Sen. Judy Ward and Carbon County Sen. John Yudichak called on PA Auditor General Timothy DeFoor to review the policies from the Departments of Health and Human Services and the impact on these elder care facilities. In a letter to DeFoor, the senators said both departments have a duty to protect our most vulnerable citizens from the pandemic. The high death toll in those facilities is alarming and reflects a disastrous policy resulting in nearly 70% of all deaths in PA occurring in elder care facilities early on, a higher proportion than in most other states. The senators also cited the Administration’s failure to make personal protective equipment and widespread testing available in the facilities.
