HARRISBURG – Several PA House Democrats plan to introduce so-called “death with dignity” legislation in PA. York County Rep. Carol Hill-Evans, Chester County Rep. Melissa Shusterman, and three other PA House Democrats will offer a bill in which terminally ill individuals would be able to request a prescription that would end their life. Modeled after Oregon’s law, the legislation includes protections to ensure that patients decide their own end-of-life care discussions and are protected from coercion. Eligibility would only be available to patients who are terminally ill with less than six months to live. Patients would be able to rescind their decision at any time. The lawmakers are circulating a co-sponsorship memo seeking support.
