LANCASTER – Rallies will take place this weekend in nearly 2,000 cities and towns in opposition to the Trump Administration. The No Kings Day of Defiance protests will happen during the military parade in Washington, DC on Saturday for the Army’s 250th anniversary. Organizers say the protest will reject authoritarianism, billionaire-first politics, and the militarization of the nation’s democracy. In our area, protests are planned for Lancaster, York, Harrisburg, Reading, and Gettysburg. Protesters have called for Trump to be “dethroned” as they compare his actions to that of a king and not an elected president. Gov. Josh Shapiro released a statement saying, “The right to peacefully protest and exercise our First Amendment is a sacred American right and here in Pennsylvania, we will always protect it. At the same time, we will always remain focused on keeping our communities safe and ensuring all demonstrations remain peaceful.” Shapiro said he is working with law enforcement statewide to make sure they have the support needed.
