HARRISBURG – Some area district attorneys formally joined a coalition formed by state Attorney General Josh Shapiro to end the practice of law enforcement agencies unknowingly hiring officers with documented patterns of excessive use of force or other misconduct. Lancaster County District Attorney Heather Adams said she joined the many law enforcement agencies who are supportive recognizing that transparency and law enforcement are not mutually exclusive and commended the Attorney General bringing together many voices to call for this necessary change in hiring practices. Dauphin County District Attorney Fran Chardo commented that this will ensure that police officers who engage in serious misconduct do not simply move to another department. York County District Attorney David Sunday said this is a much needed tool for law enforcement leaders to use when making hiring decisions.
