PUNXSUTAWNEY/QUARRYVILLE (AP) – It’s Groundhog Day and people are waiting to learn whether furry prognosticators will predict an early spring or six more weeks of winter. People will gather at Gobbler’s Knob in western PA as members of Punxsutawney Phil’s “inner circle” summon him from his tree stump to learn if he has seen his shadow. Phil announced seeing his shadow and predicting six more weeks of winter. Folks in Quarryville will do the same for Octoraro Orphie. According to folklore, if the groundhog sees his shadow there will be six more weeks of winter. If he doesn’t, spring comes early.
