YORK – The autopsy results of fallen West York Borough Police Officer Andrew Duarte and alleged assailant Diogenese Archangel-Ortiz have been released by the York County Coroner’s Office. In responding to the shooting and hostage situation at the UPMC Memorial Hospital on Saturday, February 22nd, Duarte’s death was ruled a homicide by way of ballistic injuries to the torso. Duarte joined the West York Borough Police Department in 2022 and had just turned 30 years old on February 17th. His funeral will be held on Friday, February 28, 2025 in Red Lion. Official documents from the coroner refer to 49-year-old Archangel-Ortiz as the alleged assailant and the one responsible for intiating the incident at the hospital. After he entered the hospital’s intensive care unit with a gun and taking staff members hostage, Archangel-Ortiz’s death was determined to be caused by multiple gunshot wounds. Both autopsies were performed at Lehigh Valley Hospital in Allentown and the autopsy reports are available online.
